Glamis Castle and Perth

With the city’s streets and public gardens filled with colour from Easter to autumn Perth is the perfect place for a special day out. The city is flat, compact, easily navigated and since much of the High Street is a traffic free precinct it offers a relaxing and enjoyable shopping experience. Long established retail outlets, together with speciality shops, sit comfortably alongside well known chain stores. For centuries Perth has been a trading burgh and continues to offer a breathtaking selection of shops offering something for everyone. Glamis Castle, looking more like a French Chateau than a medieval fortress, has a fascinating and exciting history. It has been the family home of the Earls of Strathmore for over 700 years. It was the childhood home of the late Queen Mother. Legends and myths have grown around the castle which is said to be the most haunted castle in Scotland. King Malcolm II was said to have been murdered here in the 11th century. The family chapel is haunted by a Grey Lady, who is said to be the spirit of Lady Janet Douglas, burned at the stake as a witch on Castle Hill, Edinburgh. There is said to be a secret room where a nobleman played cards with the devil himself. Depart Ayr 08:00, Prestwick 08:10, Troon 08:20, Irvine 08:35 and Kilmarnock 08:50 and continue past Glasgow and Stirling arriving, approximately 10:45, for a comfort stop at Dobbies Garden Centre, Stirling or Baxters, Blackford. Depart at 11:30 and continue to Perth where the coach will drop passengers who do not wish to visit Glamis Castle. Due at approximately 12:30. The coach will then continue to Glamis. Depart castle at 15:30, and return to Perth for short break. Depart Perth approximately 17:30, arrive Kilmarnock approximately 19:30, Ayr 20:30.
