St Andrews and Anstruther

There are many places to go and things to do in and around the East Neuk of the Kingdom of Fife and something to suit everyone. Coastal routes are a delight and, from time to time, give the visitor spectacular views across the Firth of Forth to the Isle of May. The many small coastal villages have a very recent history of the fishing industry. Anstruther, the largest of these villages and the main shopping centre, is re-inventing itself as a typical seaside village with many of the shops in a long line overlooking the harbour which has changed dramatically over the years, going from a full working, fishing harbour to one which hosts mainly pleasure craft. The University town of St Andrews is a town meant for exploring. Within the intact medieval layout of the town centre, concentrated in Market Street, South Street, Bell Street and Church Street, the visitor is guaranteed to find an excellent range of independent, family-run shops and businesses, with a unique range of goods matched by personal service. Shopping in St Andrews is always a rewarding experience. A walking circuit of St Andrews town centre can take in all the main visitor attractions which are all within walking distance of one another. Visit the Cathedral, which was once a place of pilgrimage for many thousands but destroyed by a mob during the Reformation. Experience the sense of history amid the dramatic setting of the ruins. Climb to the top of St Rule's Tower and enjoy the breathtaking views of town and sea. Take time to explore - on foot - and take pleasure at the surprises and delights you will find. Depart from Ayr 08:00, Prestwick 08:10, Troon 08:20, Irvine 08:35 and Kilmarnock 08:50 and travel via Forth Road Bridge to Anstruther for approximately 11:30. Depart Anstruther at 12:30 and continue via Crail to arrive in St Andrews at 13:00. Depart St Andrews at 17:00 and return direct to Ayrshire with short comfort stop en route. Arrive Kilmarnock 20:30 and Ayr 21:30
